Environmental Protection Bureau of Tainan city government (TNEPB) started this annual project in order to promote environmental education(EE). With this project, TNEPB expect citizens understand their environment better and participate in the improvement actions more, hence achieve goals of sustainable development by the process of citizenship education. The 8 major goals in this annual project classified as:
1.Assist city government to accomplish EE resource investigation, activities promotion, data statistics and the execution report with experts’ advisement.
2.Assist city government to host EE workshops according to the EE legislations.
3.Support EE award promotion and nominees preliminary selection.
4.Assist excellent EE facilities and locations to apply for EE facility certification from EPA.
5.Participate international conferences and related occasions.
6.Allocate EE volunteer resource and assist volunteers apply for EE personnel certification.
7.Assist city government organizing and promoting EE activities.
8.Assist city government’s EE Review Committee to progress.
In the execution timespan, we accomplished:
1.Held 4 EE promotional explanation seminars, and accomplished the 2012 annual executive report.
2.Held 8 EE workshops, which the attendance rate was 82.9%.
3.Assisted regional preliminary selection procedure in the first National EE Award, and consulted the excellent nominees for further certifications.
4.Assisted 13 facilities apply for certification, which 6 of them had the certificate and another one pass the assessments.
5.Provide supports to participants that attend 2012 ICLEI world congress and UNCSD.
6.Assisted EE volunteers holding 73 EE promoting seminars meanwhile advised 3 volunteers apply for personnel certification.
7.Held EE activities on important occasions also publish 5 pieces of news.
8.Edited the EE implement act (draft) according to EE Review Committee and other offices advise.
With the implementation of this project, we expect to provide citizens planned EE facilities with local specialty. Also by executing EE act firmly and assist TNEPB with various fields of EE activities, we expect concepts of EE could be implemented into the cooperation, communities, schools and other areas. We expect to improve citizens’ environmental ethnics, awareness and responsibilities. Hence, we can carry out the essence of low carbon city, achieve the goals of sustainable development and maintain the balance of the ecosystem.
