In recent years, global warming and climate change have resulted in increasingly worse disasters, hence causing damages to biodiversity and environment, as well as critical energy and food shortage. In order to solve these tough problems, long-term efforts should be made in promoting environmental education. Accordingly, Taiwan officially implemented the “Environmental Education Act” from June 5, 2011, in an effort to, through education and activity experience, promote people’s better understanding of the ethical relationship with environment, and cause people to develop environmental awareness, and realize environmental values, ethics, skills and actions through education, and turn environmental education into a life attitude.
In order to continuously promote environmental protection, the Environmental Protection Bureau of Taichung City Government expects to, by implementing the “2019 Taichung City Environmental Education Promotion Plan”, organize and provide diversified campaigns and assistance with local characteristics, assist featured environmental education establishments in applying for environmental education facility and establishment certification or assist in applying for the Seventh National Environmental Education Award and other activities, to allow people to know about the abundant natural ecological resources and local human environment characteristics in Taichung City, accelerate local popularization of environmental education, raise people’s awareness of environmental sustainability and improve people’s environmental literacy and their ability to solve environmental issues.
